02MS Project integration

EC Roadmap reads your MS Project schedule using three custom Text fields. Before importing, tag your tasks directly in MS Project:

FieldDefaultPurpose
Roadmap TagsText1Controls the role of each task — see tag values below
Swimlane / ChildText2Optionally redirects a task to a different swimlane
Alternate NameText3Optionally overrides the display name for any row

Tag values for Text1 (Roadmap Tags)
TagMeaning
RoadmapNames the roadmap — use on a summary task. Becomes the slide title.
SwimlaneSets the current swimlane. All tasks below inherit this until the next Swimlane tag.
ChildSets a child swimlane within a swimlane (requires Parent/Child mode enabled).
TaskDraws a task bar using the current swimlane context.
MilestoneDraws a milestone diamond. Task must have matching Start and Finish dates.
SDSignificant Date — draws a vertical marker spanning all swimlanes.

You can change which Text fields EC Roadmap maps to each role in the MS Project tab under Field Mapping.
Once your tasks are tagged, EC Roadmap offers three import methods from the MS Project tab:
1

Browse for MPP

Click Browse and select your saved .mpp file. EC Roadmap connects to MS Project to read the file — MS Project must be installed but does not need to be open.

2

Read active project

If MS Project is already open, click Read Active Project. EC Roadmap connects to the running instance and reads all tagged tasks. A confirmation dialog shows the project name before proceeding.

3

Active selection

With MS Project open and tasks selected, click Read Selection. EC Roadmap reads only your currently highlighted tasks — useful for generating a roadmap from a subset of a larger schedule.

Yes — EC Roadmap connects to MS Project directly to read your project data, so MS Project must be installed on the same machine. If MS Project is not available, use the Excel template workflow instead, which has no additional software requirements beyond Excel.
The XML file export is optional. EC Roadmap connects directly to MS Project — no Save As or XML export step is required, this is done through the tool. Simply tag your tasks using the Text fields and use one of the three import methods in the MS Project tab.
Yes — finish-to-start, start-to-start, and finish-to-finish predecessor relationships are automatically imported and drawn as dependency arrows on your roadmap slide.

03Using EC Roadmap

EC Roadmap supports monthly/quarterly and weekly timeline views. You can organize tasks into flat swimlanes or nested parent/child groupings. From the Configuration tab you can toggle stoplights, status glow, dependency arrows, critical path highlighting, baseline tracking, progress bars, significant date markers, milestones, and hover tooltips.
Yes. Add multiple roadmap sheets to your Excel workbook — EC Roadmap generates one polished PowerPoint slide per roadmap sheet in a single pass. Sheet names become slide titles. This is useful for portfolio views, program-level roadmaps, or per-team roadmaps delivered in one deck.
Check these common causes: (1) Make sure your Excel file is saved and closed before generating. (2) Verify that dates are formatted as actual date values — select a cell and format as Short Date to confirm. (3) Check for blank rows between tasks — a blank row in column A stops processing below that row. (4) If your output file is already open in PowerPoint, close it first. If the issue continues, email support@ecroadmap.com with a description of what's happening.
Yes — the generated .pptx file is fully editable in Microsoft PowerPoint or any compatible application. Adjust text, colors, sizing, or layout however you like after generation. The file is yours to keep regardless of your subscription status.

04License Renewals & Expiration

Renewals are handled directly through ecroadmap.com. Once payment is processed for your license renewal, you will receive an email with an activation link and instructions for activating your renewal license.
The app will stop generating new roadmaps. All previously generated .pptx files remain fully yours to keep and use. Renew your subscription through our website at any time to resume generating.
